On December 16, at a meeting with the president on the development of Tashkent, plans were announced to create special parking areas for drivers coming to the city from the regions.
Some users and social media channels perceived the innovation as a preparation for the upcoming ban and restrictions on drivers from the regions entering the capital.
The Tashkent city administration announced that this is an additional opportunity, not an obligation or restriction. The parking system will serve as a more rational, modern, and flexible transport flow management system, which expands the choice for citizens and consistently increases the overall level of city comfort.
This refers to the modernization of checkpoints and the creation of modern transport hubs on their basis. Part of the checkpoints will be moved outside the city limits, and part will be reconstructed. In these areas, large parking areas, campsites, recreation areas, and, most importantly, a developed public transport infrastructure will appear, which will allow you to quickly and conveniently reach the city, — the message says.
Drivers will be able to leave their car at the entrance to the city and continue their journey in public transport — or, as before, enter the city in their personal car.
Similar model Park & Ride is used in the world’s leading megacities and is aimed exclusively at improving the transport situation and the quality of life of the population. For the residents of Tashkent, these measures mean a reduction in traffic congestion, a reduction in traffic jams, and an improvement in the environmental situation. For guests of the capital, there is no need to look for parking spaces in the central part of the city and the opportunity to choose the most convenient mode of transportation, the khokimiyat summed up.
Earlier, it was reported that the mayor of Tashkent revealed the main reasons for traffic jams. According to Shavkat Umurzakov, the new traffic management center will significantly reduce traffic congestion.
