The presidential decree approved the establishment of a Traffic Management Center (TMC) in Tashkent, along with its functions and powers.
Starting July 1, 2026, the TMC will be able to restrict the movement of certain modes of transport, set speed limits, and monitor compliance with weight and dimensions standards. The body will take on several key tasks. These include monitoring traffic flow and pedestrians, preventing traffic jams, and improving traffic safety.
For this purpose, the TMC will collect information from cameras, sensors, and other sources, as well as form a unified city database on the road situation. In addition, the center will plan street infrastructure and transportation, develop speed regimes, parking layouts, public transport routes, and improve pedestrian zones.
The structure will coordinate the work of all transport services and operators, including carriers and rental services, as well as approve traffic management projects, install violation cameras, and monitor paid parking. One of the tools will be the mathematical modeling of traffic flows, which will allow testing new traffic patterns and evaluating the effectiveness of street and bridge construction or reconstruction.
The Center will also be granted the right to establish speed limits on certain sections of streets, impose restrictions on certain modes of transport, issue permits for repair and landscaping works, monitor the weight and dimensions of vehicles, participate in PPP projects and international transport initiatives, and send mandatory submissions to organizations operating at transport infrastructure facilities.
Earlier, it was reported that roads in Tashkent were being modernized with the help of a Chinese company. The total volume of work financed by loans from the Bank of China under the state guarantee of Uzbekistan will be 270 million dollars.
