On December 16, Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the economic and social development of Tashkent.

The President spoke about the results achieved over the past 9 years. More than $20 billion in direct foreign investment has been attracted, and about 5,000 large projects have been implemented. The volume of foreign direct investment per capita increased from 71 dollars in 2017 to 2.2 thousand dollars.

Commercial areas in the city have increased 14 times and reached 67 million square meters, and the number of entrepreneurs has approached 140 thousand. More than three thousand facilities operate around the clock, which has become the basis of the “night economy”.

Residents themselves say they note the positive changes in Tashkent based on the “Pedestrian City” principle. 1,000 modern electric buses and buses were delivered, and 168 new routes were opened. An additional 33 km of metro lines and 21 new stations have been built, — Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

It is expected that the permanent population of Tashkent will increase by an average of 100 thousand people per year and will exceed 3.5 million by 2030. By that time, the city’s GRP will reach $52 billion, and the population’s income will almost double, reaching $15,000 annually or $1,250 per month.

The President noted that to achieve these goals, the khokim and his deputies, as well as the khokims of 12 districts, must work tirelessly to revise the city’s housing stock, transport, energy, education and healthcare, and service infrastructure in accordance with the standards of modern megacities in the world.

Tashkent must be transformed into a center of finance, advanced technologies, culture, and tourism, — Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Also, Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced certain “changes” in the management of Tashkent. 2026 has been declared the “Year of Rapid Development and Income Growth”, and a special large-scale program is expected to be adopted.
