Uzbek citizens who became victims of labor slavery were returned to Uzbekistan from Myanmar, Dunyo reports.
Several citizens have contacted the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Bangkok, reporting that they have become victims of human trafficking. They asked for help in returning home. According to the department, the victims were deceived by promises of high-paying online work and were provided with free tickets from Uzbekistan.
After arriving in Thailand, they were deceived and illegally transferred to Myanmar, where they ended up in the hands of the OCG. There, Uzbeks were forced to work in fraudulent call centers, and those who refused to comply with illegal demands were intimidated and physically harassed. Similar conditions were found in Myanmar for citizens of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
Recall that 19 citizens who were held in slavery in greenhouses were returned to Uzbekistan from Ukraine. The compatriots were given the status of “victims”, which excluded the application of sanctions against them under Ukrainian law.
