A crisis of illegal construction has erupted in Uzbekistan, causing thousands of families to be left homeless, according to Construction and Housing and Communal Services Minister Sherzod Hidoyatov, as reported by Spot.
Over the past eight years, 38 thousand apartments have been illegally built across Uzbekistan. Some of this number is still under construction. The main problem is that “many” of them have already been sold to the population.
“Illegal” houses fall under the category of houses that do not have land permits and sanctions from the khokimiyat, or do not have the conclusions of the Architectural and Urban Planning Council and the necessary safety expertise for the project. The facilities are not registered with the Construction and Housing and Communal Services Control Inspectorate under the Cabinet of Ministers. How to officially sell housing in an illegal house to people is an open question.
Currently, a working group is working on the illegally built housing, the purpose of which is to legalize the construction and conduct the necessary examinations. Group representatives will travel to the sites and assess the objects for seismic resistance. Next comes the technical examination, which is carried out by design institutes together with experienced designers.
Earlier, it was reported that more than 200 new buildings in Uzbekistan were under threat of demolition. Authorities also identified approximately 400 facilities with construction violations.
