On December 17, there were changes in the fuel and energy sector.

Bakhodir Sidikov has been relieved of his post as head of Uzbekneftegaz amid worsening gas shortages and disruptions at methane filling stations. He led the state-owned company since March 2023, having previously served as chairman from 2019 to 2020.

Under his leadership, gas production began to decline rapidly, leading to a campaign to cut off gas supplies to industrial facilities and greenhouses and convert them to coal, which resulted in a sharp deterioration in air quality.

Abdugani Sanginov, who headed Uzbekhydroenergo since 2017, has been appointed the new chairman of Uzbekneftegaz; he has been relieved of this position.

On December 16, Shavkat Mirziyoyev dismissed Alisher Sultanov from his post as the Uzbek presidential envoy for energy security. He had held the post since August 2023, having previously served as the head of Uzbekneftegaz and the Minister of Energy.
