In Uzbekistan, prisoners and detainees were provided with medical assistance after the intervention of the Ombudsman, the press service of the department reports.

Convicts appeal to the Ombudsman both during monitoring visits and directly – through “Ombudsman boxes”. Applications are also received from their close relatives and lawyers. In particular, an appeal was received from the Jizzakh region’s colony No. 29 regarding the failure to provide emergency medical care to a convict in serious condition.

It was revealed that during two days, the convict, with a high fever and fever, was taken to several medical facilities under the supervision of colony staff. In one, they demanded payment or a referral, in another, they refused admission due to the absence of a pulmonologist.

The patient’s condition was assessed as serious, with a diagnosis of “left lung abscess, bilateral lower lobe pneumonia”. The Ombudsman’s Regional Representative organized the delivery of the convict to the hospital. The patient underwent examination, necessary tests, and was hospitalized for inpatient treatment.

After completing the treatment procedures and returning to the colony, the institution was provided with the necessary medicines, — the report said.

In another case, a defense attorney at the Jizzakh Department of Internal Affairs’ detention center requested assistance in transferring the defendant to Special Hospital No. 23 for convicts for surgical intervention. Following the Ombudsman’s request, the transfer was carried out accompanied by a medical worker and on specialized medical transport.

Also, in the 6th detention center of Namangan region, a woman who is in her fifth month of pregnancy appealed to the Ombudsman’s regional representative with a request for assistance. Upon request, a gynecologist was invited and a full medical examination was conducted.

During the visit of the Ombudsman’s regional representative to the 40th targeted colony in the Syrdarya region, two convicts involved in socially useful work complained about their health condition. They were sent for medical examination, one of them was hospitalized.
