In Uzbekistan, domestic offenders will lose the right to own weapons

The deputies put forward proposals to prevent crimes in mahallas.

In Uzbekistan, citizens convicted of domestic violence and harassment are to be deprived of the right to acquire weapons. The relevant draft law was discussed at a meeting of the Legislative Chamber.

The deputies devised proposals to prevent crimes in mahallas. Regional issues in enhancing legislation on this matter were identified.

Cases of illegal carrying of cold weapons in public places have become more frequent in the country. The draft law proposes to tighten liability measures for persons who repeatedly commit such violations.

It is proposed to enshrine in the legislation a provision prohibiting the provision of the right to acquire weapons to Uzbeks who have committed crimes related to domestic violence and harassment. It is also planned to temporarily seize weapons from citizens who have committed violence against children.

The document also proposes referring citizens suffering from narcological diseases, if they have been brought to administrative responsibility at least once, for treatment by court order in private.

The deputies adopted the amendments in the first reading.

Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan would pay for the voluntary surrender of weapons. For some types, they will pay more.
