Uzbekistan plans to improve the state control system in the field of information technology, according to a government decree.

According to the document, the Control and Inspection Service in the field of informatization and telecommunications under the Ministry of Digital Technologies has been designated as a specially authorized state body and assigned new responsibilities. In particular, it will now monitor the media, television, postal services, and other types of digital technologies.

The agency will also register new media outlets and monitor and control their work, as well as study materials to protect children from information harmful to their health. By January 2027, the authorities plan to launch the “Digital Control” platform, which will have the following capabilities:

  • monitoring of the provision of digital technologies and telecommunications services in residential areas, including remote and marginalized areas;
  • taking appropriate measures in case of failures or disruptions in the operation of information systems, resources, software products and databases;
  • organization of prompt consideration of applications received from individuals and legal entities.

Earlier, it was reported that journalists in Uzbekistan would be punished for interfering in their work. The draft law will be submitted for consideration soon.
