A parliamentary inquiry into the use of water resources was sent to the Minister

The questions relate to the implementation of water-saving technologies, the quality of irrigation systems, and the development of funds for concreting canals.

During the regular plenary session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, deputies submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the Minister of Water Resources. The subject of the query concerns the progress of work on the rational use of water resources, the implementation of water-saving irrigation technologies, and the concreting of main and internal canals.

Population growth and economic development are increasing the strain on the country’s water resources. In the regions, there are still several unresolved issues identified during deputy meetings with voters and control measures.

In particular:

  • The high cost of installed water-saving technologies renders them inaccessible to water users.
  • the quality of certain technologies during localisation does not meet the requirements;
  • Drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, as well as systems based on flexible pipes, often fail after a short period of operation.
  • the issue of timely allocation of funds for concreting canals and creating incentives for farmers to lay concrete pavements on irrigation networks remains relevant.

In this context, the parliamentary inquiry requires the Minister to provide well-founded explanations regarding the implementation of tasks related to efficient water use, reducing the costs of water-saving technologies, utilisation of subsidies, and the progress of concreting of main and internal canals.

Earlier, it was reported that Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the water resources management programme for 2025-2028. The authorities plan to integrate 11 sectoral programmes into a single platform, create an IT centre, and establish a situation centre using the capabilities of Uzbekcosmos.
