Schools in Uzbekistan are planning to adopt a 12-year education system

Another year will be a preparation for learning.

Uzbekistan has started shifting to 12-year general secondary education, said Sardor Rajabov, Deputy Minister of Preschool and School Education.

An additional academic year will be added as preparation for primary school: one year of preparatory stage and four years of primary education, followed by five years of basic general education, then two years of general secondary education (grades 10–11).

Currently, preparatory groups for school admission operate across the country, reaching nearly all six-year-old children in the republic. The system is being integrated into the school structure to align with international standards. Children will receive instruction directly in schools, and special training programmes will be developed for teachers.

A 12-year education will exempt graduating applicants from the requirement to complete foundation courses when entering foreign universities, saving them an extra year.
