In Tashkent, a 20-year-old resident of Kashkadarya was sentenced to 6 years in prison for preparing for terrorism, the press service of the capital’s courts reported.

According to the case materials, the young man had been independently studying religious materials on the internet since 2023 and was influenced by the ideas of extremist and terrorist groups. He was dissatisfied with the reforms being carried out in the country and supported members of the terrorist organization “Tavhid va jihod katibasi” operating in Syria.

Later, he contacted a user through Instagram, who, according to the court, fought in the same group. The young man studied ways to go to Syria to join the militants, was inspired by propaganda lectures, and was preparing sabotage activities in Tashkent. In addition, he stored and distributed prohibited terrorist materials.

Despite the fact that the sanctions in the case provide for longer detention periods, the court took into account mitigating circumstances and sentenced him to six years in prison, emphasizing the principle of humanity. Everyone has their own truth, but it must be proven in court, — the statement said.

As a reminder, an illegal migrant from Uzbekistan was detained in the US for alleged involvement in terrorism. In his homeland, the man has been wanted since 2022 for recruiting people into a terrorist organization and calling for jihad online.
