In the Samarkand region, a nurse who kidnapped and sold a newborn for 6.12 million soums was sentenced, Kun reports.
According to the information, the incident occurred in April 2025 in Payariq district. A 43-year-old employee of the maternity ward of the central hospital took a three-day-old girl out of the ward, whose mother was registered as mentally ill. The offender also took the mother’s passport and the child’s birth certificate with her.
The woman took the baby to the house of a resident of the “Guzal” mahalla and sold it for 5 million soums and 100 dollars, after which she spent the money on her own needs. Law enforcement officers conducted an inspection, during which the kidnapped child was found and returned to the maternity hospital.
Law enforcement officers have initiated a criminal case against the woman under Article 135 (Human Trafficking). The court found the woman guilty and sentenced her to five years of imprisonment with a two-year ban on holding positions in the healthcare system.
Earlier, it was reported that a resident of Navoi wanted to sell her child to a neighbor. She faces up to 12 years in prison.
