A tourist from Uzbekistan died in the mountains of Kazakhstan

The young man collided with a ravine and suffered fatal injuries.

A tourist from Uzbekistan crashed in the mountains of the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan, the press service of the regional Department of Emergency Situations reports.

The tragic incident took place on 1 September. Emergency services received a report about two young men who went to the mountains on 31 August and did not come back. After receiving the appeal, search and rescue operations were launched.

The search was conducted in the area of the Sayramsu peak at an altitude of about 2,200 meters above sea level, on the territory of the Sayram-Ugam National Nature Park, 8 km from the village of Kaskasu.

In the area of the “Goodwill Games” pass, FVV rescuers established voice contact with one of the tourists. He said that the 29-year-old Uzbek citizen fell into a ravine and sustained fatal injuries.

Due to the complex and rocky terrain, the helicopter was unable to approach the scene, and the rescue team continued on foot. At the rescuers’ initiative, five professional climbers from the Kazakhstan Alpinism Federation were brought from their base in Shymkent, who, together with the rescuers, continued searching and organising the evacuation.

The climbers, using specialised equipment, scaled the rocks and discovered one surviving tourist, as well as the body of the deceased. The victim and the body were transported downstairs. The rescued man was evacuated on horseback to the foot of the mountain, where relatives awaited him. The body of the deceased was also unloaded and handed over to the police.

The rescue operation involved 18 personnel and five pieces of equipment from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, forestry, police units, climbers of the Kazakhstan Climbing Federation, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles and a “Kazaviaspas” helicopter.
