The Kamchik Pass has been temporarily closed

The reason was the sharp deterioration of the weather, heavy snowfall, and the risk of avalanches.

On December 10, due to a sharp deterioration in weather conditions, the road at the Kamchik Pass was closed, the press service of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate reported.

According to the department, the road was closed from 02:30 due to sharp weather deterioration, heavy snowfall, and increased risk of avalanches. Traffic will resume after the weather improves. Additional information about the road opening will be provided later.

It’s worth noting that the first snow at the Kamchik Pass fell on December 4th. Then the specialists reported that the special equipment is ready to clear roads for the convenience and safety of citizens.

On December 9th, the drivers reported to NOVA24 that visibility is still good. However, due to ongoing work on the roadway and possible minor collisions between unprepared vehicles, a traffic jam formed. Satellites also showed high traffic congestion on the route.

UPD: As of 12:30 AM, the section of the A-373 highway Tashkent—Akhangaran—Angren—Kokand—Shakhrikhan—Andijan (80-201 km) has completely stopped, and the Kamchik Pass has been reopened for traffic. The press service reported that traffic is safe in both directions.

The Kamchik Pass Road Department also recommended that all drivers passing through the Qamchiq Pass, taking into account weather conditions, not exceed the speed limit, maintain a safe distance, and take all necessary safety measures.

As a reminder, an Isuzu truck driver was involved in a horrific accident at the Kamchik Pass. The Isuzu driver, due to a malfunction in the braking system, lost control and crashed into a metal barrier. The man was hospitalized with injuries to his hands.
