On November 12, information about problems with traffic jams in the Tashkent metro spread on social networks. The city administration commented on the situation.
According to the department, if in 2021 the metro served an average of 280-300 thousand passengers per day, then in 2025 this figure has already exceeded 1 million passengers per day. To prevent traffic jams and reduce travel time between stations, train intervals have been reduced during peak hours (from 07:30 to 09:00) over the past 3 years. In particular:
- In 2021, the interval on the Chilanzar line was 5 minutes (16 trains), now — 1.5 minutes (28 trains);
- “Uzbekistan” line — from 6 minutes (9 trains) to 3 minutes (16 trains);
- on the “Yunusabad” line — from 11 minutes (6 trains) to 4 minutes (11 trains);
- on the “30 Years of Uzbekistan’s Independence” overground ring line — from 12 to 9 minutes (the number of trains increased from 5 to 11).
Until 2021, 36 trains operated in the metro. In the last 3 years, 41 more units have been purchased. By 2025, their number exceeded 75. During 2026, it is planned to purchase an additional 56 modern wagons. This will allow the park to be updated and traffic intervals to be reduced.
Also, the Metro appealed to passengers with a request to follow the rules for using the metro:
- maintain mutual respect;
- do not stand at the doors of the wagon until passengers exit;
- upon arrival, quickly clear the passage;
- not to lean against the doors;
- not to leave personal belongings in wagons and on the territory of the metro.
Earlier, it was reported that it would be possible to reach the new airport from Tashkent in half an hour. The authorities want to lay a new metro line.
