The new nuclear power plant will be able to provide stable energy supply to Samarkand, Jizzakh, and Navoi regions, Uzatom Agency Director Azim Ahmedxadjayev said during a live broadcast on the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.
It is planned that the launch of the station will increase the reliability of the power system and reduce the load on existing power lines. Azim Akhmedkhajaev also emphasized that the project is integrated and combines modern technologies of various capacities.
The new station will consist of two small RITM-200N reactors and two large VVER-1000. The director of the Uzatom agency noted that the implementation of the project will attract significant investments, create new jobs, and give a powerful impetus to the development of the construction, transport, and service sectors. The department representative emphasized that the construction of the nuclear power plant is not only an infrastructural project, but also a step towards shaping the country’s new energy policy.
Earlier, it was reported that a key phase of small nuclear power plant construction had begun in the Jizzakh region. The station’s service life will be at least 60 years.
