The mayor of Tashkent revealed the main reasons for traffic jams

According to Shavkat Umurzakov, the new traffic management center will significantly reduce traffic congestion.

The khokim of Tashkent, Shavkat Umurzakov, spoke about what the future Unified Center for Road Traffic Organization will be like and how the application will work for citizens.

The head of the city administration said that international practice shows the effectiveness of such an organization in cities. Shavkat Umurzakov cited Seoul, Singapore, China’s Shenzhen, Dubai, and Moscow as examples.

In each metropolis, a single traffic management center has been created, to which all relevant functions are transferred. After its creation, the first task will be to develop a master plan for the Tashkent transport system, — the khokim noted.

At the same time, the master plan must take into account the needs of all road users — passengers of public transport, users of micro-mobility devices, such as bicycles, electric scooters, and others, as well as trucks and drivers of cars.

It is necessary to determine which streets and at what time trucks should move; ensure conditions for micro-mobility. Today, a person cannot travel 5 km on an electric scooter or bicycle and reach their destination without obstacles. This requires calculations,” the head of the capital’s administration emphasized.

At the same time, he noted that currently there are no calculations in the city that would guarantee that a passenger will get there faster on public transport than on a personal car. The system will work, according to Shavkat Umurzakov, like a mobile application.

Residents and guests of the capital will be able to download it and clearly see how to get to the right place faster. The official also stated that for citizens planning repairs, a notification will be sent with a proposal for alternative routes. At the same time, such solutions, according to Shavkat Umurzakov, are impossible without digitalization, as it will ensure transparency and speed of the mechanism’s operation.

The implementation of the project is expected to help reduce traffic congestion by 30-40%, as well as reduce the environmental burden by 15% – by reducing dust load and harmful emissions from vehicles. In addition, the head of the city administration presented the tasks that the future center will undertake, including:

  • analysis and modeling of transport and pedestrian flows;
  • implementation and management of the intelligent transport system (ITS);
  • development and implementation of a transport master plan and frame;
  • organization of city parking lots;
  • development of infrastructure for charging electric vehicles;
  • stimulating the use of personal mobility tools and others.

Earlier, the authorities presented plans to implement a unified center for traffic management in Tashkent — an intelligent transport system that will help reduce traffic jams. The President approved the proposals and instructed to launch a pilot project already in 2025, expand it in subsequent years, and integrate it into the regions by 2030.
