Tashkent is set to receive mobile substations from China

They will be utilised during the repair and modernisation of the capital's power grids.

Uzbekistan and China have agreed on projects in the field of energy systems, mobile substations, and hydro-storage generation technologies, Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamahmudov said in an interview with “Uzbekistan 24”.

The Minister observed that China remains Uzbekistan’s “largest investment and technological partner” in the energy sector. The head of the Ministry of Energy introduced a new project in the field of hydraulic accumulation generation in the Tashkent region. The preparatory work will be finished by the end of the year.

This technology utilises an energy storage system based on lithium-ion batteries: water supplied from hydroelectric power plants is collected again in the reservoir and, if necessary, during peak hours, is used for the re-generation of electricity. This will enable a more stable supply of electricity over a longer period.

Agreements have already been made in this area, and this new project will be carried out for the first time in Uzbekistan. Among other initiatives, he mentioned the construction of new power grids in partnership with Energy China and their long-term commissioning under partnership terms.

The Minister also announced an agreement with a Chinese company to supply mobile substations that will be used during the repair and modernisation of networks in Tashkent. This reflects the implementation of the president’s instructions on stabilising the city’s electricity supply.
