In Uzbekistan, starting from 2026, all enterprises will be forced to install background monitoring stations and fines for non-compliance will be increased 5-fold, as well as benefits for causing harm to nature will be abolished, according to the presidential decree.
According to the information, the country’s industrial enterprises of the I and II categories for environmental impact will be required to install background monitoring stations on their territories and integrate them with the National Center for Environmental Monitoring of the Ecology Committee by March 1, 2026. At the same time, for institutions that do not fulfill the requirements before this deadline, compensation payments will be increased 5 times.
In addition, from March 1, 2026, all acts related to the provision of benefits and exemption from compensation for damage caused to nature will cease to be in effect. Also, issuing documents that preclude compliance with environmental legislation requirements or permit non-compliance with them will be strictly prohibited in the country. These include environmental assessments, as well as resolutions, orders, or protocols providing for the felling and transplantation of trees and shrubs.
Earlier, it was reported that residents of Uzbekistan could block any construction projects involving tree cutting. For this, it will be necessary to obtain the approval of only 10% of the residents of the mahalla.
