Criminal liability for storing electronic cigarettes has been established in Uzbekistan

Violators face up to imprisonment.

On November 27, Uzbekistan introduced a ban on the circulation of electronic cigarettes and liquids for them and established liability for their storage, the press service of the Ministry of Justice reports.

According to the amendments to the Criminal Code, the production, acquisition, storage, transportation, sale, manufacture, import into the country or export of tobacco products, electronic nicotine delivery systems, including electronic cigarettes, the circulation of which is prohibited in Uzbekistan (in large amounts or after the application of administrative penalties for the same actions), are punishable by:

  • a fine of 300 to 500 BCV or correctional labor from 2 to 3 years;
  • restriction of liberty for a term of 3 to 5 years or imprisonment for a term of 3 to 5 years.

In this case, the person is released from liability if they voluntarily report their actions to state bodies and surrender items prohibited for circulation. It’s worth noting that the ban doesn’t apply to tobacco heating systems.
