In Tashkent, a chief inspector of the Tax Department was caught taking a bribe

The accused promised the head of the textile company to cancel the accrued tax.

A criminal case has been initiated against the chief inspector of the Tashkent City Tax Department for large-scale bribery, the State Tax Committee’s press service reports.

According to the department, the Mirzo-Ulugbek District Court of Tashkent has launched an investigation into officials of a textile company in Surkhandarya region. According to the investigation, they were additionally credited with 8.7 billion soums in taxes. This was established by the Department for Combating Economic Crimes and the capital’s Tax Department.

On September 15, the court decided to conduct a repeat audit. The chief inspector of the tax audit department told company representatives that he could cancel the tax for $5,000. However, he was unable to fulfill his promise. The man was detained while returning the received money.

A criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 210 (obtaining a bribe by extortion) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The investigation is ongoing. The man faces up to 10 years in prison.

Recall that in the Jizzakh region, the head of the district Department of Emergency Situations was caught taking a bribe. The official demanded money from a businessman to process construction documents.
