In the Samarkand region, law enforcement officers stopped illegal drug trafficking and, during a special operation, detained a recidivist drug dealer, the State Security Service press service reported.

According to the information, the incident occurred in the Urgut district. Law enforcement officers conducted an operation to apprehend a 59-year-old local resident who attempted to sell 993 grams of opium to a “conditional buyer” for $15,000. The man had previously been under the supervision of law enforcement and had previous convictions for similar charges.

It turned out that this drug was imported into the country from Tajikistan. Currently, law enforcement officers have initiated a criminal case under Article 28, Part 2 (Smuggling) and Article 273, Part 5 (Illegal manufacturing, acquisition, storage, and other actions with narcotic drugs, their analogues, or psychotropic substances for the purpose of sale, as well as their sale) and have arrested the suspect.

Earlier, it was reported that attempts to smuggle drugs were stopped in two regions of Uzbekistan. As a result of special operations, law enforcement officers were able to seize about 30 kilograms of narcotics.
