In Uzbekistan, the nation’s gene pool will be protected from drugs — basic information

On November 3, Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with a presentation of proposals for protecting the nation’s gene pool from drug addiction, enhancing the effectiveness of combating cybercrime, and digitizing the prosecutorial oversight system, as reported by the presidential press service.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 11 thousand drug crimes have been identified in Uzbekistan, and about 2.5 tons of narcotic drugs have been seized. In particular, psychotropic and synthetic substances in the form of convenient for storage and sale dosage forms are becoming increasingly widespread, especially among young people.

The production of synthetic drugs has been established in underground laboratories, the sale is carried out mainly via the Internet in contactless form, and the source of distribution is transnational criminal groups.

Therefore, it is time to introduce into national legislation norms aimed at preventing such threats, uncompromisingly combating them, and completely eradicating this evil, — the head of state noted.

Officials presented proposals for the elimination of illicit drug trafficking. Comprehensive measures and mechanisms have been proposed to ensure effective protection of the population’s health and the nation’s gene pool from this threat.

It was noted that implementing effective practical measures aimed at preventing the spread of drugs among students and pupils, forming an intolerant attitude towards this phenomenon among young people should be defined as one of the priority tasks of all bodies and organizations.

The need to eradicate illicit drug trafficking, primarily among young people, by applying stricter criminal-legal mechanisms, toughen the responsibility for drug crimes committed against young people, and to organize large-scale operational-search and investigative activities to identify and suppress the actions of internet traffickers, organized groups, and drug laboratories, as well as officials who patronize them, was emphasized.

The system of diagnostics, treatment, and rehabilitation of minors and young people suffering from drug addiction will also be radically improved.

Following the presentation, the President approved the draft National Program of Comprehensive Practical Actions for the Prevention and Combating of Drug Crimes for 2025-2026, which includes more than 100 operational-preventive, organizational-educational, and information-propaganda activities. Relevant instructions were given to organize continuous work in this direction.

Earlier, it was reported that in the Tashkent region, SSS officers uncovered a family drug trafficking group. The criminals also involved their children in the circulation of prohibited substances.
