265 tonnes of medicines and food were dispatched due to the devastating earthquake.

In connection with the devastating earthquake in Afghanistan, Uzbekistan transferred a humanitarian cargo of about 265 tons to the neighboring country, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.

The cargo handover ceremony took place in Hayraton, Balkh province. The cargo, including medicines and food products, was formed at the Termez Cargo Centre platform and delivered to Hairatan in 14 trucks.

On behalf of the Balkh province leadership, the head of the secretariat, F. Rabi, delivered a speech. He expressed gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, emphasizing that the leader of Uzbekistan and the people of the country have always stood shoulder to shoulder with the Afghan people in all difficult times. F. Rabi noted that this support is a manifestation of true brotherhood, which the Afghan people and its leadership will never forget, the report says.

Deputy Governor M. Idris stated that the humanitarian cargo will be delivered to the provinces where the aid is most in demand and handed over to families in need. The earthquake most affected the eastern provinces – primarily Kunar and Nangarhar, as well as Laghman, Nuristan, and certain areas of Panjshir.

Representatives of Afghanistan emphasized that the assistance from Uzbekistan is not just about medicines and products. This is a manifestation of solidarity and humanity, a signal that even in the most difficult days, there is a friend and neighbor ready to support you. The words about the kindness and generosity of the Uzbek people, which will forever remain in the memory of the Afghans, were spoken, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan noted.

From the Uzbek side, the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatulla Irgashev, and the Governor of Surkhandarya Region, Ulugbek Kosimov, took part. They observed that the neighbouring country’s assistance reflects the president’s approach towards strengthening good neighbourly relations, fostering a spirit of solidarity, and supporting the Afghan people.
