The IAEA head called for reducing the risks of nuclear weapons proliferation

At the opening of the “World Atomic Week” forum in Moscow, the head of Rosatom thanked the partners for their trust.

On September 25, the international forum “World Atomic Week” under the auspices of Rosatom, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the atomic industry, began its work in Moscow. This was reported by NOVA24 correspondent.

The opening ceremony was attended by Sergey Kirienko, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Rosatom State Corporation, Alexander Novak, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA, Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of the World Nuclear Association, and Alexey Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom.

Sergey Kiriyenko stated that nuclear energy requires great mutual trust, in connection with which Russia and Rosatom adhere to the rules — to build long-term trusting relationships, with a willingness to transfer technologies and knowledge, to create joint ventures, and to work together in the markets of third countries.

Modern nuclear power plants have been operating for about 100 years. This means that the agreements reached at this World Atomic Week will determine the fate of our planet, at least until the end of this century, — emphasized Sergey Kiriyenko.

General Director of the State Corporation Rosatom Alexey Likhachev noted that the common task is to step together into a future where there is no alternative to using nuclear energy as the basis of green energy.

And we sincerely thank our partners for their trust. And we will do everything to justify this trust, — Likhachev stated.

As part of the forum’s opening ceremony, the launch of the VVER-1200 reactor bodies — for the Al-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant №1 in Egypt and for the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant №4 in Turkey — took place via teleconference.

IAEA President Rafael Grossi acknowledged that the atomic industry is at a special stage of its development.

When we finally managed to turn the pages of the unjustified rejection of the possibilities of atomic generation, we have the opportunity to gather together and discuss promising nuclear technologies, — Rafael Grossi emphasized.

According to the head of the organization, nuclear energy should be used for peaceful purposes, and any nuclear facility should have a peaceful solution and be aimed at a peaceful outcome. In this regard, Rafael Grossi reminded of the need to minimize risks, including the spread of nuclear weapons, and to comply with nuclear and physical safety standards.

These issues must be ensured both now and in future projects. It is very important that all countries have access to nuclear technologies in this way, — Grossi said.
