On average, the contribution of migrants to Moscow’s economy is at least 23-25%, thus bringing more income to the Russian capital than expenses, according to research conducted at the Higher School of Economics.

According to the information, in 2017-2023, the combined contribution of various categories of migrants to Moscow’s economy annually amounted to more than 20% of the gross regional product. At the same time, in 2020 alone, this indicator decreased to 21% and remained at 23-25%.

Specialists studied several categories of migrants: permanent migrants who moved to the capital from other regions of Russia no more than 5 years ago, pendulum migrants — working in Moscow but returning to their region every day, shift migrants — also working in the Russian capital but not permanently residing there, and international migrants, which include foreign citizens who came for temporary work.

At the same time, within the framework of the analysis, it was possible to establish that all groups of working migrants provide a larger volume of budget revenues than expenditures. It is noted that revenues are mainly 2-3 times higher than expenditures.

Earlier, it was reported that the stay of unemployed family members of migrants in Russia would be restricted. Vladimir Putin approved a new concept of state migration policy.
