In Iran, the requirement to wear hijab has been abolished

Police were warned not to fine or harass women without hijab.

In Iran, the mandatory wearing of hijab has been suspended, according to Mohammadrizo Bahoner, a member of the Council for Purposeful Control.

In the country, wearing a hijab is no longer a legal obligation, and the police received a notification stating that no fines or prosecution will be applied for this.

The statement came amid years of protest and resistance. In particular, mass protests for women’s rights intensified after the arrest and death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was caught by the “morality police” in 2022 for incorrectly wearing the hijab.

Then women from all over the country took to the streets, took off their hats, cut their hair, and shouted the slogan “Woman, life, freedom”.

Recall that in Afghan Kabul, women were detained for improperly wearing the hijab. The Taliban Ministry denies the detention, insisting it be interpreted as an “explanatory conversation”.
