Air quality is deteriorating in Tashkent and other regions of Uzbekistan due to temperature inversion, said Iskandar Kutbiddinov, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change.

According to the chairman, the phenomenon is caused by a large difference in daytime and evening air temperatures, which in some cases reaches 14 degrees, fog, and a decrease in wind speed, which makes it difficult for pollutants to disperse into the atmospheric air.

Qutbiddinov reported that the Special Commission for Air Quality Improvement in Tashkent continues its work, coordinating the activities of various organizations. In particular, environmental raids and control measures are continuing at industrial and economic facilities, as well as in relation to vehicles.

On January 8, the average content of fine-dispersed PM2.5 particles in the air of Tashkent over the past day was 101 μg/m3, exceeding the REM (60 μg/m3) by 70%. According to forecasts, such meteorological conditions will persist until January 16-17. With the arrival of anticyclones, precipitation and increased wind speed are expected, which should improve air quality.

Recall that earlier, Uzbekistanis were warned about the possible deterioration of air quality. The increase in temperature in the country’s territory again activates inversion processes in the atmosphere.
