Vehicle-free zones will appear in Uzbekistan

Comfortable conditions for tourists will be created locally.

In the cities of Uzbekistan, there will be free zones for cars on tourist and guest streets, the press service of the country’s Tourism Committee reports.

It is planned that the innovation will help create comfortable conditions for tourists, as well as provide an opportunity for “enriched recreation and free walks” for guests and residents of the country. The department announced the creation of pedestrian zones in Tashkent, Nukus, 11 regional centers, and nine other settlements.

In particular, two pedestrian streets in Samarkand — a 2.5-kilometer section in the “Kongil” tourist settlement and Islam Karimov Street between Registan and the Shohi-Zinda complex (1.5 km) — will become car-free. In Bukhara, the area from Toki-Telpakfroshon to the parking lot near the Ark fortress will be closed for cars, and in Khiva — the territory of the “Arda-Khiva” complex.

In addition, Taras Shevchenko Street, which was already closed to cars since its reconstruction in 2024, will become free of traffic. Similar pedestrian areas will also appear in the following locations:

  • Tashkent region — Tashkent Road Street in the Karasu mahalla, section 1 km of Oybek mahalla, section of S. Rakhmatov Street (0.9 km) in Angren;
  • Namangan — sections of Usman Nasyr and Lutfi streets in the Obi Hayot mahalla;
  • Fergana — near the I. Karimov Palace of Arts, in the Eco-Character Park and the Ahmad Al-Farghani Park;
  • Kokand — Urda Square, Istiklol Street;
  • Margilan — in the Park of Creativity (named after Erkin Vakhidov);
  • Andijan — Istiklol, Urikzor, Sarikuy streets;
  • Gulistan — Alisher Navoi Street (0.72 km);
  • Jizzakh — Zargarlik mahalla, Sindor Hamroqulov street, plots near the Hamid Alimjan and Zulfiyakhanum museums, “Urda” eco-park;
  • Kashkadarya region — Mustaqillik Street along Mustaqillik Square in Karshi, Shahrisabz Historical Square, Miraki Tourist Center;
  • Termez — Alisher Navoi Street (inner road) in “Alpomish” mahalla;
  • Navoi region — “New Uzbekistan” park in Navoi, “Yoshlik” lake, Sarmishsay museum-reserve;
  • Karakalpakstan is the “Dustlik” recreation center.

Earlier, it was reported that the People’s Democratic Party proposed to revise the tariffs for paid parking in Tashkent. The deputies noted that the tariffs are higher than salaries and significantly higher than in neighboring countries.
