Uzbekistan and the USA will cooperate in the field of nuclear energy, the press service of the US Embassy in the country reports.

US Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Brent Christensen and Uzbekistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Muzaffarbek Madrahimov signed a memorandum of understanding on nuclear cooperation. This will create a basis for expanding cooperation between experts and the industry of the two countries in the field of atomic energy.

The Agreement provides for:

  • interaction between scientists and nuclear specialists of the two countries;
  • exchange of knowledge, technologies and standards in the field of nuclear energy;
  • possible projects for research facilities and infrastructure of nuclear reactors in the future;
  • US support for the program to strengthen its own nuclear industry amid global energy competition.

This corresponds to President Trump’s decree on supporting the American nuclear industry in global competition, — the statement said.

As a reminder, Uzbekistanis will be able to count on compensation in case of nuclear disasters. The draft law adopted by the deputies needs to be approved in the Senate.
