Uzbekistan and Russia signed documents on the construction of the first Uzbek NPP

The parties also signed an agreement on the main terms of the fuel supply contract.

On September 26, within the framework of the international forum “World Nuclear Week” in Moscow, Uzatom and Rosatom signed documents on expanding cooperation. This was reported by NOVA24 correspondent.

The signing ceremony was attended by Andrey Rozhdestvin, CEO of Rosatom Energy Projects, and Abdujamil Kalmuratov, Head of the Nuclear Power Plant Construction Directorate.

The Additional Agreement on the main conditions for implementing the project for the construction of an integrated nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan provides for the conclusion of a contract for a new configuration of the nuclear power plant.

The parties agreed that the project will include two high-capacity power units based on VVER-1000 generation 3+ and two power units with RITM-200N reactors with a capacity of 55 MW each. The head of “Uzatom” Azim Akhmedkhodjaev clarified that the agency and “Rosatom” will sign a preliminary contract for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region with two large and two small blocks by the end of the year.

The documents specified the agreement reached on June 20 within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The parties signed the main terms of contracts for the supply of fuel for small and large-capacity nuclear power plants. The solutions will form the basis for the comprehensive implementation of the integrated nuclear power plant project on one site.

At the same time, the cost of the first Uzbek AES remains confidential, while expenses will be optimized as much as possible, Russian partners are showing interest in the project, and construction will be widely localized with the involvement of Uzbek companies.

As a result, we will be able to boast about the cost of the project, — concluded the head of Uzatom Azim Akhmedkhodzhaev.
