Uzbek labor migrants in Great Britain will be protected from exploitation

Representatives of the two countries signed a memorandum of cooperation.

Uzbekistan and Great Britain signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of labor migration, Dunyo reports.

At the Embassy of Uzbekistan, a meeting was held between the Director of the Migration Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers, Behzod Musayev, and the Director of the British Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA), Eliza McCaffrey.

GLAA is a UK government body that licenses the activities of private employment and recruitment agencies, including in agriculture, as well as monitors compliance with labor laws and improves working conditions. The structure’s main task is to prevent the exploitation of workers and protect their rights.

During the negotiations, the parties exchanged views on the prospects of bringing Uzbek-British cooperation in the field of labor migration to a new level and reached a number of agreements. Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Migration Agency and the GLAA.

The document is aimed at streamlining the process of attracting labor from Uzbekistan to Great Britain, increasing the number of labor migrants, as well as creating additional mechanisms for the effective protection of the rights and interests of our citizens working in the territory of this country.

Earlier, a meeting was held in the British capital between agency director Behzod Musayev, Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Great Britain Ravshan Usmanov, and Association of Labour Providers CEO David Kemp.
