The first concrete for a small nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan will be poured in the spring of 2026

The head of Uzatom Azim Akhmedkhajaev stated that the republic is becoming a pioneer in the implementation of ASM.

On September 25, within the framework of the “World Nuclear Week” international forum organized by the Russian corporation Rosatom in Moscow, the head of Uzatom Azim Akhmedkhajaev stated that the first concrete at the ASMM in the Jizzakh region will be poured in 2026. This was reported by NOVA24 correspondent.

The head of Uzatom emphasized that the atomic energy sector is being restructured and reformatted to accelerate the project to build the country’s first Small Nuclear Power Plant in Jizzakh region, in accordance with the task set by the President. At the same time, work is underway with the relevant licensing bodies of Uzbekistan and Russia to obtain permits, and discussions are also being held with the IAEA, which monitors the implementation of this project.

Azim Akhmedkhajaev noted that the atomic industry is a future-defining phenomenon, especially for Uzbekistan.

We are on the threshold of events that are a major technological breakthrough in terms of their significance, given the ambitious industrial and technological program in Uzbekistan. In ASMM, we see not only the implementation of support for this progress.

Uzbekistan is actually a pioneer in the implementation of small nuclear power plants, small reactors have a great future, the republic can become a platform for exchanging experience and training personnel, we can create a good school for the development of small modular stations, — Azim Akhmedkhajaev.

As a reminder, Uzbekistan and Russia signed an agreement on the conditions for the construction of a larger nuclear power plant. The document provides for the main conditions for the possible implementation of the construction of two VVER-1000 power units with a prospective expansion to four power units.
