Shavkat Mirziyoyev will open the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand
The event will be attended by heads of state and other honorary delegates.

On October 30, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, will take part in the opening ceremony of the 43rd session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which will be held in the city of Samarkand.
For the first time in forty years, the historic session of the General Conference is being held outside UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris. Holding such a large-scale international forum in Samarkand will serve as a vivid confirmation of Uzbekistan’s commitment to the ideals and values of the Organization, as well as its determination to actively contribute to the development of global dialogue in the name of peace, mutual understanding, and sustainable progress.
Hosting such a representative international event in one of the world’s most ancient and majestic cities carries special symbolic significance. It attests to the high level of trust the global community places in Uzbekistan, its growing authority, and its active role in promoting the ideas of intercultural dialogue, preserving historical and cultural heritage, and developing humanitarian cooperation.
UNESCO is a specialized organization of the United Nations established in 1945 with the goal of strengthening peace and security through the development of international cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture and communications.
Earlier, it was reported that entry to Samarkand would be closed for two weeks. The 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference will be held in the city for the first time.
