Most Uzbekistanis in Russian Prisons Convicted of Drug Crimes

The rest are also imprisoned for sexual assault, murder, grievous bodily harm, theft, and fraud.

The majority of Uzbek citizens in Russian prisons have been convicted of crimes related to drug trafficking and transportation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press service reports.

According to the head of the Department of Consular and Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Civil Affairs, Munira Nizomova, the number of Uzbek citizens serving sentences in Russian prisons for relevant crimes is 60%. Next in the list are the following crimes:

  • sexual violence – 12%;
  • murder – 7%;
  • causing grievous bodily harm – 5%;
  • theft – 4%;
  • fraud – 3%.

Recall that Russia proposed to abolish social pensions for migrants. The LDPR party stated that it is time to stop the “free social package” for visitors and thus reduce the burden on the federal budget.
