Mayor of New York visited struggling Tashkent
Hokim Shavkat Umurzakov, who has not made a single statement about air pollution, told the guest about the “development strategy”.

A meeting was held in Tashkent between the city’s mayor, Shavkat Umurzakov, and a delegation from New York City headed by Mayor Eric Adams, according to the city administration’s press service.
The parties discussed topical issues of the development of megacities, exchanged experience in modernizing urban infrastructure, and also considered areas of cooperation between the cities. The city mayor familiarized the delegation with the key directions of the “Tashkent Development Strategy until 2030”.
Large urban planning and investment projects were presented:
- “New Tashkent”;
- creation of the “Yangi Avlod” industrial zone;
- development of new public spaces.
The parties separately discussed reforms in the transport system, logistics, and housing and communal services in Tashkent. Projects implemented jointly with international companies — Marriott, Wendy’s, Pepsi (USA), DP World (UAE), VEOLIA (France) and others were also presented.
The Mayor of New York highly appreciated the dynamics of transformations in Uzbekistan and expressed admiration for the scale of the changes being implemented under the leadership of Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He emphasized that the development of the capital of Uzbekistan is proceeding in the right direction and opens up new opportunities for strengthening international relations. Erik Adams expressed his readiness to further deepen cooperation between the two cities and noted that this visit will allow for a more detailed acquaintance with the projects being implemented in Tashkent.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to begin preparing an Agreement on establishing partnership relations between Tashkent and New York, which will become the basis for long-term cooperation in the field of comprehensive urban development, culture, innovation, and economy.
As a reminder, Uzbekistan plans to increase clothing exports to European and US markets. The President instructed to open two shopping centers in the cities of St. Louis and New York.
