Italy may participate in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan

Representatives of the two countries discussed the adaptation of Italian engineering solutions to the country's climate conditions.

The Italian energy holding Ansaldo Energia may be involved in the implementation of the project for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, the press service of the Uzatom agency reports.

Agency Director Azim Ahmadkhojayev held a meeting with the management of the Ansaldo Energia holding and its subsidiary, Ansaldo Nucleare, which specializes in nuclear energy technologies. The parties discussed issues of technological integration and adaptation of Italian engineering solutions to the country’s climatic conditions.

Special attention was paid to the possibility of attracting holding companies as technical consultants to monitor the nuclear power plant construction project. The areas of cooperation with Ansaldo Nucleare in the field of radioactive waste management, including the possible use of its spent nuclear fuel management system, were also studied in detail.

In addition, the Italian side expressed interest in consulting on the formation of a national regulatory framework and licensing, as well as in organizing joint research and development projects aimed at improving nuclear technologies and training personnel.

Earlier, it was reported that the nuclear power plant could provide stable energy supply to three regions of Uzbekistan. The head of Uzatom said that the project is integrated and combines modern technologies of various capacities.
