Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev, during a plenary session at the Global Atomic Forum in Moscow, stated that the republic is transitioning to its own generation based on the use of peaceful atom. This was reported by NOVA24 correspondent.

The high-ranking official noted that Uzbekistan has been one of the significant uranium producers for many years: the republic accounts for about 4% of global reserves and over 3,500 tons of uranium production annually, remaining a reliable partner in the global fuel cycle.

This is the base, the real industrial experience on which we are building the next stage of industry development. At the initiative of the president, Uzbekistan is moving from a raw material role to creating its own generation based on the use of peaceful atom, which is multi-vector in nature, — Khodzhaev.

Jamshid Khojayev emphasized that the joint project with Rosatom for the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is unique: two large-capacity VVER-1000 reactors with a capacity of 1000 MW and two small-capacity RITM-200N reactors with a capacity of 55 MW will be built on one site in the Jizzakh region. At the same time, the combination of large and small units on one site will significantly strengthen the operational stability of the network and simplify the use of renewable energy sources.

Large blocks provide predictable basic generation, while smaller ones provide flexibility for covering morning and evening peaks and for reserves during unstable solar and wind power stations. The nuclear power plant will become not just a source of “green energy”, but a system-forming facility capable of creating energy harmony, taking into account the accelerated growth of the introduction of renewable energy sources and industrial consumption.

A separate block is personnel training, which provides for a continuous system of personnel training for the nuclear industry, covering all stages of training: from school to postgraduate education.
