The Tashkent City Police Department reported the detention of Taftish.uz journalists, known for their investigations into citizens’ appeals.
According to the information, among those detained are the publication’s head, G’ayrat Aberayev, as well as employees Azizjon Yuldashev, Sardor Hamidov, Marjona Eshquvvatova, and Dilshod Nishonov.
They were detained on January 16 on suspicion of committing crimes under Articles 165 (Extortion) and 168 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. Law enforcement agencies are investigating their possible involvement in the crimes stipulated in Articles 139 (Slander) and 244−6 (Dissemination of false information).
Further information on the case will be provided later. At the same time, reports about the suspension of the publication’s activities were called invalid.
