Dozens of landfills have been closed in Uzbekistan

Land where household waste was previously collected has been restored and returned to nature.

In Karakalpakstan, as well as in eight regions of Uzbekistan, 47 solid household waste landfills were reclaimed, the Waste Management and Circular Economy Development Agency reported.

Thus, in Andijan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Tashkent, Fergana, and Khorezm regions, work has been carried out to restore and improve the land where previously landfills were located. In particular, in 2024, the land of 27 landfills with a total area of more than 80 hectares was restored, including one in Karakalpakstan, six in Andijan region, five in Kashkadarya, and three in Tashkent region.

In 2025, work on the reclamation of another 18 landfills with an area of 81.68 hectares has been fully completed. Out of 185 landfills, 47 have been reclaimed and covered with soil. In addition, 42 landfill sites were closed, and about 90 hectares of land were returned to nature.

As a reminder, the production of three-wheeled garbage trucks has been launched in Samarkand. Trailers can move freely along narrow streets, making garbage removal more efficient.
