A request was sent to the ministers regarding air pollution issues

Deputies requested detailed updates on measures to reduce industrial emissions.

Members of Parliament sent a parliamentary inquiry to the Ministers of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, as well as Economy and Finance, requesting information on the measures being taken in Uzbekistan to protect atmospheric air, recycle waste, strengthen environmental monitoring, and introduce energy-saving technologies.

During the discussion, the deputies noted that in recent years, large-scale reforms have been actively implemented in the country aimed at developing renewable energy sources, increasing energy efficiency, reducing waste, rational use of water resources, and introducing environmentally friendly technologies.

It was noted that based on the “Application of Innovative Carbon Resources for Energy Reforms” project, authorities carried out tariff reforms in the energy sector in 2023, which allowed for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 6.3 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. At the same time, part of these reductions was directed to the international carbon units market, which allowed for the attraction of $7.5 million in grant funds.

It was noted that these measures allowed saving 6.3 million kWh of electricity, more than 82 thousand m3 of water, and more than 1,050 tons of raw materials. In 2025, specialists also installed modern dust and gas cleaning equipment at 140 large industrial and cement production enterprises. It was also noted that during the spring-autumn period of 2024, industrial enterprises carried out work to create “green belts” in adjacent territories and planted 11.8 million tree and shrub seedlings.

To increase the level of forest cover in the country, 7,000 hectares of unused state forest fund land were developed in 2024. At the same time, the deputies emphasized that the issues of protecting atmospheric air, recycling waste, strengthening environmental monitoring, and introducing energy-saving technologies remain relevant in the country.

In this regard, a parliamentary inquiry was sent to the Ministers of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, as well as to the Ministers of Economy and Finance requesting information on the work being carried out to assess the state of enterprises that release harmful substances into the atmosphere and generate excessive amounts of polluting industrial wastewater, reduce emissions of harmful substances, introduce environmental certification “Green Certificate”, environmental labeling of technological processes, as well as measures to support the transition of small businesses and private entrepreneurship to the principles of a “green” economy.

It’s worth noting that Tashkent has been experiencing worsening weather conditions for two consecutive days. Thus, against the backdrop of heavily polluted air, Uzhydromet appealed to residents and guests of the capital and asked them to take precautions, as well as to reduce being outdoors and wearing masks when going outside.

The dangerous air situation is also observed in Andijan. In the city’s atmosphere, the concentration of small PM10 particles was 502 μg/m³, which is 1.0 times higher than the permissible hourly norm. The concentration of fine dispersed particles PM2.5 was 314 μg/m³, which is 8.9 times higher than the permissible hourly norm.

Earlier, it was reported that raids were conducted against greenhouses polluting the air in Tashkent and Tashkent region. Measures were taken against some citizens.
