A key stage of the construction of a small-capacity nuclear power plant has begun in the Jizzakh region, the Rosatom press service reports.

At the construction site, they began excavating soil for the RITM-200N reactor power unit pit. Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev and Uzatom head Azim Akhmedkhajaev launched the key stage of the work. The first stage includes the development of a pit for the ASMM power unit with the RITM-200N reactor being built in the Forish district.

About 1.5 million cubic meters of soil will be developed for the station, the depth of the pit will reach 13 meters. When constructing the ASMM, a high degree of localization is provided. The work is being carried out by Uzbek subcontractors.

Rosatom will build a station with a service life of at least 60 years and will provide all necessary support during its operation. We have many decades of fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation ahead of us, — said Alexey Likhachev.

Recall that Uzbekistan and Russia signed documents on the construction of the first Uzbek NPP. The parties also signed an agreement on the main terms of the fuel supply contract.
