On September 8, the final match between the Uzbekistan and Iran national teams took place at the new stadium in the Olympic Village of Tashkent as part of the CAFA Nations Cup.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino watched the match from the VIP zone. In the fifth minute of the match, the referee showed a red card to the Iranian player, causing the team to continue the game in small numbers.
Nevertheless, both halves of the main game ended in a draw, as did the first half of extra time. At the end of the second extra time, midfielder Hajiakbar Alijanov scored a goal against Iran and brought the trophy to the Uzbekistan national team.
After the final whistle, the players celebrated their victory along with the fans, with a total of 11,842 spectators gathered at the stadium.
On the eve of the match, FIFA President Gianni Infantino arrived in Tashkent and received the “Dustlik” Order from the President of Uzbekistan for his personal contribution to the development and promotion of Uzbek football.
