Uzbekistan to host FIFA U-20 World Cup
The decision was made by the Federation Council.
Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan will jointly host the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup youth tournament, according to the press service of the Uzbekistan Football Association.
According to the information, the host countries of the championship were determined at a regular meeting of the FIFA Council. In particular, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan have had the opportunity to host the youth mundial, which is considered the second most important FIFA competition among national teams after the main world championship.
In recent years, our country has gained significant experience in hosting major international tournaments. In particular, the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan was organized at a high level and received special recognition from the international football community. These competitions also allowed Uzbek specialists to gain sufficient experience and demonstrate their potential in hosting major world-class tournaments,” the association noted.
It’s worth noting that on October 9th, a friendly match between the Uzbekistan and Kuwait national teams will be held at the new Olympic Stadium in Tashkent as part of the FIFA international window: the foreign athletes will conduct two days of training, after which they will face the national team on the field.
Earlier, it was reported that the Uzbekistan national team had risen in the FIFA rankings. The country’s national team remains the leader among Central Asian countries.
