Uzbekistan’s U-23 wrestlers excelled at the World Championship

The athletes won bronze and silver.

Uzbekistan’s athletes won first medals at the World Championship in Greco-Roman wrestling among athletes under 23 years old, the NOC press service reports.

According to the information, the event is taking place in Serbia. National team representatives Abror Atabayev and Hojiakbar Kuchkarov managed to win silver and bronze medals. In the -72 kg weight category, Abror Atabayev defeated opponents from China, Russia, Georgia, and Kazakhstan in the final.

However, in the decisive match, the wrestler lost to an Iranian representative and finished the world championship in second place. Hojiakbar Kuchkarov also lost to his Azerbaijani opponent in the quarterfinals. In the match against the Chinese representative, he managed to win, after which he won the bronze medal, defeating the Iranian athlete.

Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan won gold at the World Championship in Greco-Roman wrestling for the first time in 24 years. Aitjan Khalmakhanov won the honorary award.
