“It will be difficult, but we are not afraid”: Cannavaro on the Uzbekistan national team’s match against Uruguay

The Italian manager shared his plans and team's mood ahead of the friendly.

On the eve of Uzbekistan’s friendly match against Uruguay, which will take place on October 13th in Malaysia, national team head coach Fabio Cannavaro participated in a press conference and shared the team’s plans and mood, according to the UFA press service.

The Italian specialist said that the team has already managed to conduct recovery training. Fabio Cannavaro also noted that the match will be different from previous ones, as the athletes will face one of the world’s strongest national teams and one of the best coaches.

Of course, it will be difficult. But we are not afraid – we want to show what we are capable of. Despite the fact that this is a friendly match, we will give our all 100% and give everything on the field, — said the head coach of the national team.

Fabio Cannavaro also responded positively to the question of whether the team will strive to control the ball and emphasized that this is a great opportunity to prove themselves, and also expressed hope that the ball will be more often with the Uzbek team during the game.

I don’t think we’ll be greeted with flowers after the defeat. It’s simple — we need to think about the result. Yes, it’s a friendly match, but even in it, you need to give your all, work with complete dedication, be united, — said the Italian specialist to a question about his attitude towards friendly matches.

Additionally, Fabio Cannavaro emphasized that despite the match being a friendly, it’s important for the team to consider all the circumstances, and noted that such games are a great opportunity to prepare, as the team won’t have time for this during the World Cup.

This is my opinion, although I respect other viewpoints as well. A long journey awaits us, and we need to treat it properly. You can’t take players on long trips just for training. There are eight months left until the start of World Cup selection — we will closely monitor all the players, — the national team’s head coach concluded, answering a question about why some players who were included in the squad for the match against Kuwait didn’t fly to Malaysia for the match against Uruguay.

Team member Abduvohid Nematov also supported the coach’s words and added that the athletes are carefully analyzing the Uruguay team’s methodology, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and promised to show good play on the field.

Earlier, it was reported that the national team’s new coach, Fabio Cannavaro, shared his plans for working with the team. The Italian specialist spoke about the preparation, tactics development, and shared his experience in interaction with local specialists.
