On January 17th, the U-23 Asian Cup quarter-final match took place at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah.
The Uzbekistan youth team played against the Chinese team. The regular time ended in a 0 draw, as did two 15-minute extra time periods.
Eventually, the game reached a penalty shootout, where the Uzbek team scored the first two shots and failed to convert the next two. The Chinese scored the first three, missed the fourth, and took the victory with their fifth accurate shot. The Chinese national team advanced to the semi-finals of the Cup, Uzbekistan was eliminated from the championship.
On the eve of the match, the Uzbekistan national team conducted a full-fledged training session, following which head coach Ravshan Haydarov called the upcoming match against China “the most important on the path to the set goals”. The players were optimistic and hoped to delight the Uzbek fans with their victory.
Earlier, it was reported that the Uzbekistan national team successfully defeated South Korea in the final match of the group stage of the U23 Asian Cup.
