Money transfers to Uzbekistan have surpassed $12 billion since the start of the year

The volume of cross-border transfers rose by 23%, with the majority of the receipts originating from Russia.

Since the beginning of 2025, Uzbekistan has received $12.1 billion in cross-border remittances, a 23% increase compared to the same period last year, the Central Bank reported.

In July, revenues reached almost $2 billion (an increase of 10.5% compared to July 2024), and in August — $1.85 billion, which is almost 20% more than a year ago.

In January-August, the country’s population sold $5.6 billion more currency than it bought. The positive difference in purchase and sale increased by 40% compared to last year.

In the first half of the year, transfers increased by 27% and amounted to $8.2 billion, their volume increased monthly — from 1.06 billion in January to 1.78 billion in June.

The main source of transfers remains Russia – $6.4 billion or 78% of the total volume. Another $1.8 billion came from Kazakhstan, the USA, South Korea, Turkey, Great Britain, Kyrgyzstan, and Lithuania.

In Uzbekistan alone, between April and June 2025, labor migrants transferred $4.8 billion to the country. According to the information, during this period, the indicator increased by 21.4% compared to the same period in 2024. The department noted that such a dynamic is due to the relative stability of exchange rates in the countries receiving labor migrants, the growth of wages, and high economic activity.

Earlier, it was reported that Russia wants to ban migrants from transferring more money abroad than their salary. This will help prevent shadow income, tax evasion, and capital outflow overseas.
