They tried to take gold in baby diapers from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan

130 million soums worth of jewelry were found on one of the passengers.

In the Tashkent region, law enforcement officers prevented an attempt to smuggle 133 million soums worth of gold items hidden in children’s diapers out of the country, the press service of the Customs Committee Department for the region reports.

According to the information, the incident occurred at the “Yallama” customs post. During the inspection of one of the passengers’ bags, specialists discovered a padded package containing two gold items with a total weight of 111 grams. It is noted that their estimated cost is 133 million soums.

Law enforcement officers seized the items. Currently, law enforcement officers are conducting an investigation and determining the origin of the precious metal, as well as identifying possible accomplices to the crime. The department reminded that individuals can export jewelry made of gold weighing up to 65 grams and silver up to 200 grams without declaration.

Earlier, it was reported that an Uzbek citizen attempting to smuggle antique coins was caught in Surkhandarya. The finds were transferred to the Termez Archaeological Museum.
